San Fransico/Napa Valley

Well, we’re off for our anniversary trip. A couple of days in San Francisco and then on to Napa Valley! Staying on the ocean just out of the city. Great place to run along the water.

Spent our anniversary in San Francisco walking at Pier 39 and Fisherman’s Wharf. Had a treat at Ghirardeli Square. Yum Yum. Walk around for several hours also visiting Lombard Street and China town. Took the 49 mile drive around San Francisco to see city highlights. Walked at the Palace of Fine Art, visited the Walt Disney Family Museum and watched surfers at the ocean.

Off the the 49 mile drive we visited Haight-Ashburg, the painted ladies in Alamo Square.

Had Hawaiian barbecue for dinner.

Sunday morning we headed to Napa Valley, we stopped in San Rafael to see the Marin County Civic Center designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. One of Bill’s favorite buildings done by him. Behind the building there was a farmers market going on. The fruit was amazing! Once in Napa we scheduled our wine tour for Monday morning.

Dunn’s River tour

This was a wonderful tour. We scheduled a private tour before we left home. Owen, our guide, was wonderful!

We climbed up the falls with a different guide. There were 7 different levels to the waterfalls. I will add pictures when we get home, they are on the good camera. Had lunch at a Jamaican restaurant call Scotchies. Great jerk chicken and jerk pork. Tried sweet potato pudding, Yum! Will add picture of how they cook it later. (Good camera). They use tire rims with legs, cover and add hot coals as their stove.

Our resort is wonderful, the ocean front room is great! I feel very safe here.

First Day in Jamaica, Mon!

Heavy snow storm on our last night in MN. Beautiful in November, but we do not appreciate it so much in April. We were excited to be flying out the next morning.

Friday morning early at the airport for our flight. Long security lines to go through. Plane was delayed for several hours and we missed our connecting flight in Charlotte.

Due to plane repair, we ended up having to stay in Charlotte, NC overnight. The airlines covered the cost of the hotel for the night and our hotel in Jamaica did not charge us for the night we missed.

Early flight from Charlotte. Security lines were very small compared to the day before. The flight only took off 30 minutes late.

We have arrived in Jamaica! Ya Mon! This is the first time in all the years we have traveled, that we have not arrived at our destination on the day we were scheduled to.

Walked the beach, had a Jamaican dinner. Weather is perfect!

Bill’s 51st Birthday Weekend Getaway

Headed up to the North Shore to celebrate Bill’s birthday. Stopped in Duluth for our favorite up north pizza at Pizza Lucé (I think this is mostly my thing, Bill puts up with it). Headed to Superior Shores during an ice/snow storm. Roads were a little treacherous; Bill’s driving was great, he tells me to keep my eyes closed during the drive, due to the noises that sometime come out of my mouth. We arrive after dark and the waves are huge as they hit the shore. It is a beautiful night on the lake.

Saturday morning the lake was quite calm. What a difference from last night. Bill slept in and I did some reading in the jacuzzi tub. Candles and a book… great relaxation time. Another one of our favorite places to eat for breakfast is Betty Pies. Bill ate pancakes and I had apple fritter French toast. SO YUMMY! We walked the trail at Gooseberry Falls. As normal, Denise had no mittens or winter boots along. So off we went to the store in Two Harbors for boots. With appropriate winter gear, we went for a great hike from our lakeshore cabin along the lake in front of Superior Shores Resort. So beautiful… huge surfing waves, and so quiet. As the waves crested, the ice chunks floating in the water were pulled away from one another, and we could see they were actually perfectly formed RINGS of ice. It was a great time and the weather was perfect!

Farewell

Last day! We had a wonderful trip!
